The notes of dried flowers and hints of grass betray the altitude that this cocoa grows, a gift from the lands of the grandiose condor, to which the Incas attributed the power to fly to the heavenly kingdom.
At the top of the mountains of Machu Picchu grows one of the most prized cocoa varieties in Peru, the “chuncho”. Many of the Peruvian cocoas carry the label “Chuncho” (as in Ecuador it happens with “the above”), but most are modern hybrids that have spread throughout the region. We are in time to preserve and promote the original xuncho. Our conservation purpose also led us to one of the sacred animals of the Incas that requires immediate protection so that we can continue to live in freedom – the mighty Condor.
