DHA is an essential nutrient for our brain, constituting approximately 30% of brain unsaturated fatty acids. Being essential, we need to add it to our diet or daily, because we cannot produce them ourselves. During pregnancy, breastfeeding, childhood and adolescence, DHA is a highly essential nutrient, as it is responsible for the correct function and development of our brain and visual tissue. The incorporation of an omega-3 acid in our body through a supplement requires that the fatty acid in question (e.g. DHA) be attached to a "vehicle".
